3/29 - A phenomenal excursion – gray whales, humpback whales and lots of dolphins ... Captain Dave ran one trip at 9am while the sea conditions near the coast were good. It was a phenomenal excursion with 3 gray whales, 500 long-beaked common dolphins and 1 humpback whale.
Right outside the Santa Barbara harbor entrance a single, small and shy gray whale was spotted and followed for a short while. Soon a large hot spot came into view as evidenced by the thousands of diving and crashing sea birds. On the scene we found at least 500 dolphins actively feeding on several large anchovy schools. Clear water made this NatGeo moment a spectacular event to behold.
Captain Dave mentioned privately to the crew “With all this action, I’m surprised there isn’t a humpback whale in he...

3/28 - Just Announced - Hudson, June 9 at the Lobero Theatre ... This all-star band calls themselves Hudson, named after the Hudson River Valley they each call home. Drummer Jack DeJohnette, bassist Larry Grenadier, keyboardist John Medeski, and guitarist John Scofield team up to celebrate their musical histories and Jack’s 75th birthday year in a tour de force of creative interplay. Fans know them as hard swinging jazz masters; deft and creative jam purveyors, rocking funky groove maestros, each musician at the top of his game. It’s rare that so impressive a group of individuals finds time away from their own projects to tour together.
True to the spirit of the project’s name, they have collected a repertoire of Hudson Valley materials from Bob Dylan and The Band to the Woodstock Fest...
3/28 - The whales and dolphins are abundant ... The chronicles recording the adventures of the Condor Express continued today with sightings of 7 northbound gray whales and at least 200 long-beaked common dolphins. The marine for weather and sea conditions was not particularly great, but Captain Eric reports that the wind and swells stayed well offshore. Luckily, the whales and dolphins are abundant inshore this time of year. Two trips left the SEA Landing docks in Santa Barbara.
9am ... Around the corner from the harbor entrance a pair of gray whales was quickly joined by a third to form a trio just off Hendry’s Beach. Cetacean sightings were fantastic.
9am ... Right away our first 2 gray whales were spotted just off Leadbetter Beach. They gave good looks but were a little bit shy. Soon an additional 2 gray whales popped up just west of the first sighting. The second pair moved at a steady pace and showed their tail flukes often. Later about 100 common dolphins found the boat in clear water off UCSB and it was spectacular.
